Calvin Johnson was exonerated in 1999 after spending 16 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Johnson was the first DNA exoneration in the state of Georgia and is the author of Exit to Freedom.

Johnson was exonerated with the assistance of the Innocence Project. He was on the inaugural board of directors of the Innocence Project, and is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Innocence Project.
